This paper presents the construction principle, structure and basic parameters of the Multifunctional Digital BackEnd (MDBE). MDBE is intended to equip the new radio telescope RT-13 of the «Svetloe» observatory first of all and other radio telescopes of the «Quasar» VLBI network afterwards. The system can include up to 24 broadband channels with 1024 MHz bandwidth. It is placed on the antenna and supports all the VLBI observation modes required, as well as radiometric modes and spectral observations. A number of functions are implemented in the system for calibration of instrumental delays and synchronization control in order to improve accuracy of the VLBI observations.
