Abstract

The problem of silence of the Universe, no signs of existence of other sentient beings, is the most important of all the natural sciences today. We reached the edge of the Universe in space and time, we understood why the stars shine, found planets around them - but found no traces of other minds. There is however one very credible evidence that indicates the possibility of intelligent life in our galaxy - it is a fact of our own existence. As it is known, the greatest secret of the atomic bomb was simply that it is possible to create it. We are and we are intelligent, our Earth is "lit up" in space up to a distance of about 70 light-years - thanks to television and radar - but we do not hear anybody's signals. The problem defies all modern scientific knowledge. It is difficult to avoid the conclusion that we have - yet - but at the very beginning and still poorly understand the physics of our Universe, and/or the possible nature of the other carriers of the Mind. And if we are indeed alone, it is even more confusing. The problem of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence - is no longer the domain of idle fancies, it is profound scientific and philosophical problem, a discussion that helps us better understand ourselves
