About the paper Full text

Abstract

The paper is devoted to a new version of the Shturman interactive remote access system for nautical astronavigation. The paper also describes the functionality of the system, some features of its implementation, and provides examples of the results produced by the system. The Shturman system allows solving problems included in the Nautical Astronomical Almanac published by the IAA RAS. The first version of this system was published on the IAA RAS website in 2009. The need to work out a new version is due to the following two circumstances: — Firstly, the process of making changes to the previous version during putting it into use was very difficult; — In addition, it became possible to make a cross-platform version of the Shturman system using open-access tools which also includes flexible web-programming tools. As in the previous version, the subject-oriented ERA system is used as a basic computing facility which has been an instrumental tool for the research in the field of fundamental ephemeris astronomy carried out at the IAA RAS for several decades. The main computer programs are written in the input language of this system. The tools of the cross-platform Racket environment were also used, in particular, the web programming tools provided by this environment. The Markdown markup language is used to format the output text results. The corresponding markup elements are inserted directly into the texts of the computer programs of the Shturman system. The program for displaying graphical results is written in C language using the vector graphics library. As a basic foundation for the necessary ephemeris calculations, the Shturman system uses a high-precision numerical theory of the motion of bodies in the Solar System EPM that was developed at the IAA RAS. The Shturman system is posted on the IAA RAS website and is used mainly in the educational practice of maritime educational institutions. As user feedbacks are received, the system is adjusted and its functionality is expanded.
