Abstract

The force function of gravitational interaction of two ellipsoids is presented in the form of inverse power series of mutual distance between the bodies. The method developed in the sixties by G. N. Duboshin has been used with this aim. The scheme of calculation of the fifth order term for homogeneous triaxial ellipsoids in addition to well-known terms of the first and the third orders is developed in detail. To describe the orientation of the bodies in space the direction cosines of their principal central inertial axes are used. The terms found are employed to form the equations of prograde-rotational motion of the bodies.
