About the paper

Abstract

Statistically significant corrections to the parameters (the complex Love/Shida numbers) of the lunar-solar tides were obtained from the analysis of VLBI observations carried out from 1985 to 2010 by international geodetic programs on global network. There are the following new nominal (independent of frequency) values of these parameters (in 10-⁴): а) for total tide h(⁰) = (6113 ± 3) - (34 ± 4)i, l(⁰) = (843 ± 1) - (9 ± 1)i; b) for diurnal tides h(⁰) = (6113 ± 3) - (10 ± 6)i, l(⁰) = (843 ± 1) - (8 ± 1)i; c) for semi-diurnal tidesh(⁰) = (6106 ± 3) - (24 ± 3)i, l(⁰) = (843 ± 1) + (3 ± 1)i. The frequency dependent effects of resonances in the diurnal tides could not be evaluated because of the existence of close frequencies in their harmonic expansion. Insufficient accuracy of the observations could not be corrected of the transfer function even for the main part of these resonances excited by the retrograde free core nutation. In the future, it is proposed to involve positional data GPS-measurements for this purpose. However, 50 VLBI stations have discovered a new effect of the asymmetry of the horizontal tidal displacement in the direction of tectonic movements of these stations.
