Abstract

The field geodetic GPS observations during summer seasons of 2002-2007 were used to estimate a regional uplifting in the south-east border of the Baltic shield close to Lakes Ladoga and Onega. The Precise Point Positioning (PPP) strategy was used for the processing by the GIPSY-OAZIS II software (5.0) with resolution of GPS carrier-phase ambiguities. The GPS-data of IGS and EPN permanent stations JOEN, METS, SVTL and PULK were used for that. The atmospheric and hydrologic loading corrections were applied to the field observations because of its episodic character. The hight components of the field stations have unusual for this region value up to 12 mm/year during some time span but the horizontal ones have usual east-northeast trend. The absolute value of this region uplifting is close to the mean velocity of the Lake Ladoga depression (-10 mm/year) by altimetric data since 1993 whereas the secular depression of the Lake Ladoga (-4 mm/year) is close to the mean uplifting of surrounding permanent stations. The large interannual the Lake Ladoga level variations (up to 1.5 m) can stimulate increased local seismisity of this region that as a sequel excites additional uplifting.
