Ultra Wideband Receiving System for Small VLBI Antennae

Abstract

This article presents the results of our work in the area of ultra wideband (214 GHz, VGOS) receiving, which is currently among the main ways to create receiving techniques in radio astronomy. Several issues are considered in details regarding the equipment to be developed for the receiving system. A structural schematic diagram is analyzed and main parameters of receiving units are justified, such as amplification factor, noise temperature and phase characteristics. Results are described of prototyping and testing some of the receiving system units, such as frequency conversion and noise generation units. SHF components and their influence on the units` parameters are considered, experimental results and the required parameters are compared and a few methods to make improvements are proposed.
